Field Trip Student Donation
Thank you for your interest in our community garden. Our tours/field trips are for ages five and up. We can accommodate any group size up to 20 people at a time, but we ask that you bring at least one adult per five children to help chaperone children ages 12 and under. Chaperones are still ideal for older ages too.
We have two main types of experiences available so please let me know your preference. First, we can do a more science-focused lesson, mostly information regarding gardening and hydroponics. Or we can provide a volunteer/work experience where the kids help with gardening.
Educational & Learning Objectives
- Learning about sustainable agriculture through hands-on planting
- Understanding food cycles (seed to table, egg harvesting, etc.)
- Exploring cultural resiliency through stories from refugee community members
- Lighthouse Charities tour with refugees
For a longer field trip, we love to add a tour of our Lighthouse Charities headquarters (3 miles from the garden) where we have informational displays about refugees and where refugees work, learn English and other job skills, and we distribute food to those in need in our community. But please consider that for the headquarters portion of a field trip it's best geared toward ages 12+ and groups of no larger than 20.
Our bakery, run by refugees, is also located at our headquarters and is a delicious way to end a field trip! You have the option to order treats or lunch ahead (with 10% discount) to be delivered to the garden if your group prefers to spend your whole time there.
A minimum donation of $5 per child is required.
